Tour guide Alicia Stabler, who portrays the character of Mad Alice, and her Bloody Tour of York have teamed up with York Gin to create a Bloody Orange gin, in time for Halloween season.
Several nights a week, Stabler takes her guests on a walking tour of York’s centuries old stories and legends. The character of Mad Alice is inspired by a legendary woman of York whom a lane in the centre of the city was named after her: Mad Alice Lane, renamed Lund’s Court.
The stories have provided the inspiration for the gin which comes in a blood-red bottle with a blood splattered label, featuring a drawing of Mad Alice herself.

A limited number of the bottles releases also have a red wax seal embossed with the York Gin seal.
Only 2,000 bottles are to be available in total, each one with a pamphlet detailing some of the stories as well as the perfect serves for the gin. It’s available to buy at the York Gin website as well as its stores. Visitors who book on the Bloody Tour can get an automatic 10% discount.
Commenting on the gin, Stabler said: “I have loved York Gin ever since it launched years ago. The idea for a Mad Alice gin came to us over – yes, you guessed it – one or three G&Ts after my regular Friday night tour. I’ve tasted it – and it comes with my seal of approval. It’s bloody gorgeous. Ideal for a G&T or cocktail as the autumn nights draw in.”
York Gin distiller Becky Antrobus added: “We’ve been wanting to make an orange gin for quite a while. So when the ‘Mad Alice’ idea came up we were really chuffed. And we are so delighted with the way the gin tastes. It has all the quality, complexity and depth you associate with York Gin. And our perfect serves – that are perfect for autumn – really make the most of this Bloody Orange gin.”
