The biggest and best names in the gin industry have been recognised at the Gin Magazine Awards 2023.
The awards – presented by Gin Magazine – were held at the Waldorf Hilton, London, marking the first time the awards have occurred in-person since February 2020.
The Gin Magazine Awards aim to recognise the best people, places and products in the world of gin.
From ambassadors to distillers and managers to hotel bars, the Icons of Gin awards honour those who have worked tirelessly for the growth of the industry. The title of Distiller of the Year was awarded to Archie Rose Distilling Co.,while James May was awarded Brand Ambassador of the Year.
Meanwhile, the World Gin Awards (part of the World Drinks Awards) award the best gins in the world, tasted and voted on by a panel of expert judges to crown the World’s Best. This year’s winners include Kyrö Rye Gin as Best Compound Gin, Hamburg-Zanzibar Suburban Gin as Best Classic Gin and Mawsim Gin Tropical Citrus as Best Flavoured Gin.
Induction into the Gin Magazine Hall of Fame is the highest honour one can receive from Gin Magazine, reserved for those who have dedicated their professional lives to the industry.
Inductee no. 14, Jonathan Adnams, is chairman at Adnams, a role he has held since August 2006. He’s worked in all areas of the company since joining in 1975 and has been a key figure in the company’s success.
Inductee no. 15, Anne Brock, is master distiller at Bombay Sapphire, responsible for every drop of gin produced. Her production experience ranges from start-ups to multi-million pound facilities.
Inductee no. 16, Alexandre Gabriel, is the creator of Citadelle Gin, which he founded in 1996. Gabriel has shown off his incredible talents over the years with the launches of Citadelle Old Tom and Citadelle Jardin D’Éte to name just a few.
Inductee no. 17, Tessa Gerlach, is the co-founder of Elephant Gin, alongside her husband Robin. Not only does her focus stretch across the production and marketing of the brand, but also the inspiring conservation efforts with partner foundations in Kenya and South Africa.
Gin Magazine editor-at-large Bethany Whymark commented said: “We have been blown away by both the quantity and quality of entries to this year’s awards, and a massive thanks and congratulations is due to all those who entered. The World Gin Awards continues to go from strength to strength, acting as our compass to track the progress of the gin market in countries around the world. Meanwhile, the Icons of Gin saw another strong field of entries; Australia was the stand-out region in this year’s competition, and I hope we will see other booming regions such as the USA, South America, and Europe challenge for the Icons titles next year.
