Cocktail of the week: Celebrating French 75 Day

French 75 cocktail in a champagne flute with a lemon peel twist, beside a bottle of Grand Marnier

Campari Group – the drinks company behind brands including Bulldog Gin, Cinzano, Grand Marnier and Wild Turkey – has announced a celebration day for the French 75 on 7 May (the seventh day of the fifth month). This classic cocktail traditionally features gin or cognac alongside champagne, lemon juice and sugar syrup.

To help you celebrate French 75 Day in style, we’ve got recipes for a classic gin-based French 75, and the Grand 75, featuring Grand Marnier’s classic cognac and orange liqueur in place of gin.

French 75

Ingredients

  • 50ml dry gin (Grand Marnier suggests Ondina)
  • 1 tsp sugar syrup
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Champagne
  • Twist of lemon, to garnish

Method

Add the gin, sugar syrup and lemon juice to a shaker and shake over ice. Strain into a champagne flute and top up with champagne. Garnish with a twist of lemon.

  • 25ml fresh lemon juice
  • Champagne
  • Orange spiral, to garnish
