English distiller York Gin is opening a new distillery and visitor destination in the heart of its historic home city.
Called The Distillery, it will be housed in the Coppergate Centre in York, also home to the Jorvik Viking Centre. The site will encompass a new production facility for York Gin as well as a 200-cover cocktail bar, shop, and interactive ‘Gin Lane’ visitor attraction, set over three floors. It will also host experiences including gin tasting, gin making and cocktail classes.
Emma Godivala, marketing director of the York Gin Company, said: “We want The Distillery to be so brilliant that it attracts people to come to York – like the Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the walls.
“The Gin Lane experience will take visitors through the incredible story of gin with the sights, sounds and smells of its history from the last 300 years. It will be a go-to experience.

‘The Distillery Cocktail Bar will be the place in York to enjoy a range of gin and other cocktails and paired dishes. The interactive classes will build on our reputation for brilliant, fun and fascinating activities for people to do with their friends. The shop will be the place to buy world-class gin and top quality York-made souvenirs.
“All in all, we’re really excited to extend York’s reputation as a brilliant and interesting place to visit with a truly top class attraction right in the heart of the city.”
To appeal to local residents as well as tourists, the Distillery will offer residents’ nights and opportunities for local artists and musicians to display and perform, as well as cut-price admission.
Since launching its London Dry Gin in 2018, York Gin has built a range of gins including Old Tom, Lady Grey, Chocolate and Orange, Outlaw and Roman Fruit. It already has a number of retail outlets in the city of York, as well as a dedicated distillery outside the city centre.
