Spiced gin brand Opihr has released a new gin in its Regional Editions range: Ophir Black Lemon.
The new expression is inspired by flavours associated with Arabia, in particular the Iranian penchant for black lemons – known locally as ‘looms’ – which are frequently used in Persian cooking for their earthy, tangy flavour.
Black lemons (technically a small variety of lime) go through a sun-drying process that tones down the bitter aftertaste carried by other citrus fruits and gives them their dusty texture and darker hue.
Alongside its signature fruit, the new London dry-style gin also includes Timut peppers.
Opihr says that the Black Lemon Gin’s exotic flavours make it a “perfect accompaniment to warmer dishes and autumnal get-togethers”.
It joins Opihr Aromatic Bitters (European Edition) and Opihr Szechuan Pepper (Far East Edition) in the Regional Editions range.
Robert Milton, global brand director at Opihr Gin, said: “It’s a real pleasure to be able to bring this truly unique gin to UK customers. It’s brilliant to pair with mezze-style and Middle Eastern dishes, and also shines with meals like hearty stews and rich chutneys. We’re looking forward to seeing our fans get creative with it.”
Opihr Black Lemon Gin goes on sale in the UK in Tesco stores from September and in Sainsbury’s from October.
This just sounds delicious!
