Mermaid Gin has joined the ranks of gin brands embracing the ready-to-drink (RTD) movement with the launch of a new ‘gin in a tin’.

The Mermaid Gin RTD is a blend of its signature gin with Indian light tonic. It comes in plastic-free, printed cans which are 100 per cent recyclable and will be dispatched to buyers in plastic-free packaging.

First to try the new drinks will be visitors to the Isle of Wight’s famous Cowes Week Sailing Regatta (31 July to 6 August).

Produced by the Isle of Wight Distillery, Mermaid Gin has been on a phenomenal rise over the past two years, with year-on-year growth of 90 per cent in 2019-20 and 57 per cent in 2020-21.

After going plastic free in 2019, the distillery achieved its next environmental aim of becoming a ‘net zero’ company in November 2020.

Xavier Baker, co-founder of the Isle of Wight Distillery said: “After a brilliant response to the launch of the Mermaid brand and with people staying closer to home, enjoying staycations and local events, we decided now was the time to broaden Mermaid’s reach.

“As with any RTD, this is perfect for those social, out-of-home, moments – not just picnics and BBQs, but it’s also the perfect sundowner for beach or boat trips!”

Mermaid Gin is named after the local nickname for rock samphire (‘mermaid’s kiss’), one of its core ingredients which is harvested on the Isle of Wight. As well as gins, the Isle of Wight Distillery’s spirits range also includes Mermaid Salt Vodka and HMS Victory Navy Strength Rum.
