New Spirit of Wales Distillery launches first gin

Steeltown Welsh Dry Gin from Spirit of Wales Distillery

New Welsh spirits company the Spirit of Wales Distillery has launched its first gin.

Steeltown Welsh Dry Gin has been inspired by the country’s industrial past, particularly its coal and steel industries.

Its citrus, herbaceous and floral notes are designed to evoke holidays in the historical ‘miners’ fortnight’ that were taken on Wales’ south coast, where the distillery is based.

Its botanicals include lemon, grapefruit and orange peel, rosemary, heather, lavender, fennel seed and liquorice root, added to the base spirit through both maceration and vapour distillation.

According to the distillery, the gin summons images of “lemonade, sorbet and a stick of rock” with a “Pembrokeshire sea breeze and ornamental floral gardens”.

James Gibbons, head distiller at the Spirit of Wales, said: “I am excited to share our Steeltown Welsh Gin with the world. The first gin in our core range, created with a versatile flavour profile making it a great option for a Welsh gin and tonic, whilst also shining through in complex cocktails.”

Daniel Dyer, CEO and founder of the Spirit of Wales, said: “I am excited our Steeltown Welsh Gin is now available. We have put in several years of research and tasting sessions to come up with original, yet mature distillery release products for everyone to enjoy.”

Steeltown Welsh Dry Gin is available in a 5cl and 50cl bottle directly from the Spirit of Wales Distillery in Newport or the online storeMaster of Malt and Crafty Connoisseur also stock the range of Steeltown Welsh Gin on their online stores.

The Spirit of Wales Distillery’s range also includes Steeltown Welsh Vodka and Dragon’s Breath Spiced Rum.
