Holi Festival, also known as the Festival of Colours, starts this weekend (28-29 March). One very visually striking tradition of this Hindu celebration involves throwing multi-coloured perfumed powder – called gulal – at friends and family.
While Holi celebrations may be a little different this year due to pandemic restrictions, Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin has created three cocktail recipes to help people to celebrate the event at home. They have been designed to reflect the traditional colours of gulal paint powder associated with the Holi Festival – red, yellow and green. For our cocktail of the week, we’ve chosen the Jaisalmer Golden Sunset: a gloriously bright drink with vibrant flavours of lime and pineapple.

Golden Sunset
Ingredients
- 50ml Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin
- 50ml pineapple juice
- 12.5ml lime juice (the juice of around half a lime)
- 12.5ml sugar syrup
- 1 tsp grated fresh turmeric
- Pineapple leaf and dehydrated orange wheel or lime wheel, to garnish
Method
To make the sugar syrup, combine 200g caster sugar and 200ml warm water and stir until dissolved.
To make the cocktail, add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with cubed ice and shake. Fine-strain into a glass filled with cubed ice, and garnish with a pineapple leaf and a wheel of either dehydrated orange or lime.
