David T. Smith

Nose
A modest mix of lemon citrus and juniper followed by a touch of violet creams.

Palate
Earthy with the woody violet of angelica root, followed by liquorice. Green notes of cedar and pine develop. The palate is relatively smooth, given the high ABV.

Finish
Dry with no sweetness, a little alcohol, and a touch of menthol pepper.

Comments
A sound example of a classic gin with enough power to stand up to mixing
with other strong flavours such as those in a Negroni.

Score

7.9

Felicity Murray

Nose
Punchy with juniper at the fore, lemongrass and a fair whack of citrus fruit, followed by mint, liquorice and earthy orris root and angelica.

Palate
Smooth and creamy but with a kick. Vibrant juicy citrus flavours are nicely balanced with more gentle herbal and earthy notes.

Finish
Resinous and citrus with a warm spice. Soft and gentle.

Comments
A versatile gin that will stand up well in cocktails, as well as a G&T with plenty of ice – experiment with the styles of tonic water now available.

Score

8.8
