While you may not be able to get to a European or UK Christmas market this year, award-winning Estonian gin brand Junimperium is hoping to evoke the spirit of such events with its Winter Edition Gin.
Inspired by classic seasonal flavours of Northern Europe, the gin is infused with bitter orange, cardamom, vanilla and cassia bark as well as lingonberries, which are native to the boreal forests of Estonia and grow in other Northern European countries.
Its producers say the resulting gin is warming with a lightly spiced, bittersweet flavour, designed to evoke the feelings of Christmas markets and ‘winter wonderlands’.
Junimperium was launched in Estonia’s capital city Tallin in March 2019 by restaurateur, fashion designer and gin enthusiast Tarvo Jaansoo, alongside four friends and distiller and chemist Aare Ormas. Its portfolio of gins now includes Junimperium Blended Dry Gin, Navy Strength Gin and Rhubarb Edition Gin, which are available in the UK through selected retailers and hospitality venues.
Commenting on the Winter Edition launch, Tarvo said: “We are delighted to introduce our Winter Edition Gin to UK gin fans. It is a sophisticated and full-bodied take on the popular flavoured gin and showcases the wonderful, warming flavours of Northern European winters and the festive season.”
The distillery’s gins are distributed in the UK by Distilled Brands. Its managing partner Gary Hazell said: “Junimperium’s commitment to quality and efficacy knows no bounds and since launching the brand in the UK this summer, the response from bartenders, buyers and gin fans has been incredibly positive.”
Junimperium Winter Edition Gin (43% ABV) is available in 70cl bottles with a recommended price of £41.95.
It follows the release of Martin Miller’s Winterful Gin earlier this month, the second seasonal release from the Icelandic/British brand.
