Opihr Gin unveils new G&Ts in a can

Opihr Gin is hoping to spice up the UK’s ready-to-drink (RTD) market with the release of two new products.

The G&T cans, using its signature spiced gin, will go on sale in Tesco in August followed by other consumer channels later in the month.

The cans combine Opihr’s London Dry Gin with a quality tonic and come in two enticing flavours – with a dash of ginger, or a twist of orange. The 250ml cans are 6.5% ABV with a recommended sale price of £2.

Opihr said the releases were a response to increased consumer demand for RTDs – sales of which rocketed up 26 per cent in May, as more people held socially distanced gatherings outside in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It follows the release of Bombay Sapphire’s premium ready-to-drink G&T earlier in the year.

Russell Kirkham, marketing director for Quintessential Brands UK, which owns Opihr Gin, said: “With consumers across the UK heading outdoors to enjoy a drink with their friends and family as part of our ‘new normal’, we’re really excited to be launching our new Opihr RTD cans. Not only do they look great with a bold and colourful design, but the two great-tasting flavours mean that consumers can enjoy a bar-quality gin while on the move.”

Not only do they look great with a bold and colourful, eye catching design, but the two great tasting flavours mean that consumers can enjoy a bar quality gin, while on the move.”

“With bars and restaurants still navigating how to operate safely and effectively under the latest Covid-19 rules, premium RTDs can also provide on-trade outlets with an efficient way of serving quality drinks safely, without the need for glassware. In this vein, we’re also looking to support our on-trade partners as they reopen with the new OPIHR RTD cans.”
