Made in Chelsea star and champion of sobriety Spencer Matthews has unveiled first low-alcohol liquid from his brand The Clean Liquor Company.
At 1.2% ABV and two calories per 25ml serving, CleanGin is being positioned as a low-alcohol, low-calorie alternative to the full-strength spirit. It joins a growing number of low and no-alcohol spirit alternatives on the market as more UK consumers look to moderate their alcohol consumption.
The product launch comes as TV personality and entrepreneur Matthews advised the great British public to keep a close eye on their alcohol intake during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, enforced by the UK government to curb the spread of the disease.
Matthews said: “Sobriety is a lifestyle choice I made a few months before becoming a dad. I quickly realised that the drink choices for the sober-curious were limited, mainly made of sugary and unhealthy options. So I worked with a great team to build a premium no/low brand and flagship product that offers a new option for people.
“By including 1.2% ABV we were able to capture all the character and taste of a great London Dry gin, so people can enjoy the occasion without any of the negative effects that go with alcohol.”
CleanGin includes traditional gin botanicals such as juniper, orris root, cardamom, coriander seeds, angelica root and lemon zest, with added zing from peppermint and ginger oils. Matthews’ recommended serve for the liquid is in a G&T with a light lemon tonic.
