Hendrick’s reveals celestial new gin

Hendrick’s Gin has unveiled the second release from its Cabinet of Curiosities, inspired by the subtle lights of the night sky.

The Scottish producer’s Lunar Gin is described as distinctly floral with a delicate spicy finish, enhancing the flavours of its original house spirit. It follows the launch of Midsummer Solstice, the first Cabinet of Curiosities release, in 2019.

The small-batch gin was created at the Hendrick’s Gin Palace by master distiller Lesley Gracie, who is said to have been inspired by the brand’s rural Ayrshire home, where the glow of the moon and stars is uninterrupted by urban lights.

“There is something magical about the sky at night and sharing that experience with those closest to you, and this gin wraps that sensation up in a glass,” said Ms Gracie.

“There is the warmth of some of the botanicals, like being wrapped up warm and snug of an evening. There is the rich aroma of night-scented flowers and in the background you can just about make out the refreshing burst of citrus. It’s not bright like the midday sun; it’s calm, chilled and subtle.”

Sarah Filimonov, UK brand ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin, said: “All true Hendrick’s lovers will know our gin works spectacularly well with our signature cucumber garnish, and Hendrick’s Lunar Gin is no different in that respect, but it lends itself to the addition of black pepper too, to accentuate the top notes of this gin.”

She suggests serving Lunar Gin in a Moonlight Buck with ginger ale, lemon juice and a garnish of cucumber and lemon, or in a Starry Old Fashioned, putting a gin twist on the classic whisky cocktail.

Hendrick’s Lunar Gin, bottled at 43.4% ABV, will be available in 70cl bottles online and in store from Harvey Nichols for a limited time from 10 February (RRP £35). This will be followed by wider national on- and off-trade distribution and marketing.
