Spirit of Speyside announces return of Gin Experience

Spirit of Speyside has announced its gin festival will be returning to the Scottish region for a second outing in 2020.

The Gin Experience, run for the first time in 2019 at venues across the region, will be taking place from 10 to 12 July at a venue yet to be announced.

Visitors will be able to try new expressions from local producers, explore innovative cocktails with top bartenders and enjoy a variety of street food.

It will run between the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, taking place from 29 April to 4 May, and Spirit of Speyside: Distilled on 28 and 29 August, which will bring together leading drinks producers at Elgin Town Hall.

Although Speyside is best known for its whisky – three in five visitors say whisky provenance is what attracts them to the region – it is home to an increasing number of gin distilleries.

According to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, UK gin sales at home and abroad are now worth more than £2bn annually – with Scotland producing more than 70 per cent of that sold.

Lauren Mustard, events coordinator at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, said: “Spirit of Speyside’s trio of drinks festivals will return this year in what will be our most significant celebrations yet, letting visitors experience first-hand why Speyside is the global epicentre of distilling.

“The majority of Speyside’s tourists are drawn here by its whisky, but with the increase in gin production and Speyside’s larder becoming widely celebrated, our revered food and drink offering is becoming a major draw.”
