Sam Coyne – 8.4
Nose: Strawberry ice-cream, the ones made with real cream and studded with bits of fruit. A lemon note. Runny honey on toast.
Palate: Fresh strawberry and juniper forward, with a salty note immediately following this up. Once this savoury note passes the strawberries remain with lemon.
Finish: Back to the strawberry ice-creams from the nose.
Comments: Great handling of delicate flavours. Choose a lighter tonic that won’t overpower the gin, or if you’re feeling fancy, mix into a Clover Club.
David T. Smith – 9.0
Nose: Plump strawberries, tart raspberries and redcurrants, creamy vanilla then lemon and gentle pine.
Palate: Strawberry, followed by the classic angelica. This moves onto citrus of lemon and orange before returning to berries.
Finish: Delicate floral notes of vanilla, blossom and rose are joined by a lingering note of strawberry and a gentle, fruity tartness.
Comments: A sterling flavoured gin. The strawberry character is clear and authentic, but the botanical integrity of the gin remains.
