Sam Coyne – 7.8
Nose: Earthy juniper nose. Liquorice and baking spices.
Palate: More of the earthy juniper, this time wrapped up in lemon peel. There’s a slightly soapy coriander note in there too. Pepper makes it a little more savoury towards the close of play.
Finish: Long, but actually fresher and livelier than the palate and nose implied.
Comments: Quite straight forward, without many frills. Tonic freshens up the juniper towards pine and brings through a fruitier note.
Phoebe Calver – 8.0
Nose: An interesting combination, initially hitting you with earthy sweetness, followed by some lightly warming peppery spice. Earthy sweetness and some citrus.
Taste: The earthy sweetness still remains as strong as ever, some angelica and works nicely with the light juniper. Still a citric zest, which is being tamed a little by the herbal notes in there.
Finish: Long, light and fruity.
Comments: Everything seems to be working in harmony here, works well with a little elderflower tonic.
