David T. Smith

Nose
Dark roasted and chocolate-y malt, with wisps of smoke and residual alcohol.

Taste
A deep nuttiness to start with – pecans and brazil nuts – followed by notes of treacle and muscovado that develop into marbled rye.

Finish
Black pepper and menthol cardamom linger long on the finish.

Comments
A potent and bold genever; such a strong character makes it well-suited for punches.

Score

7.5

Felicity Murray

Nose
Powerful, slightly sweet and quite woody with a resinous tang. Aromas of curried spices and roasted almonds come through along with a touch of vanilla, dark chocolate and arrowroot.

Palate
Hot and peppery with malted grain, vanilla, leather, tobacco and just a touch of honey.

Finish
Dry and long with a sweetish edge.

Comments
More like a whisky in character than a gin, therefore try sipping over ice or mixed in a traditionally whisky-based cocktail such as an Old Fashioned.

Score

7.6
