London Dry Gin
Price per bottle: ££
David T Smith – 8.6
Nose: Clean and crisp juniper, angelica and coriander. Simple, but also a classic nose.
Palate: A real complexity comes through on the palate on top of a good, solid classic gin backbone, augmented by gentle spice and mellow citrus.
Finish: A dry, slightly leafy finish that is clean and pure with very little alcohol burn.
Comments: A fine example of a classic gin that would be well-suited to a Martini.
Felicity Murray – 8.8
Nose: Fresh citrus fruits, pine needles, peppery spices and earthy root aromas. Clean and balanced.
Palate: Dry, powerful and fairly complex with a sharp citrus edge cutting through the juniper and fresh green herbal flavours.
Finish: Warm and dry, of medium length and with a soft citrus twang.
Comments: A good example of a traditional style gin that will shine through a classic tonic mixer and stand its ground in a cocktail. Garnish with a twist of citrus peel and perhaps a sprig of mint.
