New Forest Oak-aged Gin
Style: Cask aged
Price Per Bottle: £21-40 (US$27-53)
David T Smith – 8.2
Nose: Gentle spice on the nose, accompanied by juniper, coriander and vanilla.
Palate: The impact of the barrel is gentle and light; initial flavours of a classic London Dry develop, followed by oak, vanilla, and a gentle spice.
Finish: Zesty coriander and citrus with a hint of oiliness that lingers on the palate.
Comments: A fine example of a lightly rested, rather than an aged, gin that would be great in a Gin and Tonic or Martini.
Felicity Murray – 8.5
Nose: Juniper and herbal notes cut through the nutty and vanilla aromas. Pine and bay leaves mingle with hazelnut and honeysuckle. Orange marmalade notes linger.
Palate: Subtle and delicate mix of spicy, herbal and sweet citrus flavours with a touch of honey.
Finish: Bittersweet, but then a warm honeyed Seville orange softness fills the mouth.
Comments: A nicely balanced, warming and citrusy sweet gin to sip neat, with or without ice, and a perfect partner for a Negroni.
