David T. Smith – 7.6
Nose: Vegetal, with leaves and a salinity you associate with coastal plants. Nutty, woody eathiness, too.
Palate: Deep chocolate notes, which are met with green mint and menthol pepper. The citrus bursts forth with some leafy notes, too.
Finish: Chocolate orange adds a dusky sweetness, and the sparkle of menthol pepper, reminiscent of cubeb or pepperberry, which lingers.
Comments: A nice combination of citrus and pepperiness, which lends itself to savoury cocktails such as the Red Snapper.
Felicity Murray – 7.2
Nose: Earthy and woody with resinous notes of frankincense, spruce, juniper and dusty angelica. Then a tinge of green herbs with thyme, basil, sage and mint emerges.
Palate: Pine and cedar is followed by a touch of sweet lemon with some herbal and minty notes.
Finish: Buttery smooth and fairly long with a slightly sweet and herbaceous end.
Comments: Lacks a little balance and complexity but would perhaps work well with fruit flavoured mixers or with a red vermouth.
