Price per bottle: £21-40 (US$27-53)
David T. Smith – 8.1
Nose: Dark cherry with hints of cola bottles and Black Forest gâteau.
Palate: An array of deep berry notes, ranging from sour cherry to creamy strawberry via a smattering of tart raspberry. Citrus and earthy angelica appear.
Finish: A lingering warmth of cranberry and tart blackberry, along with a subtle leafiness.
Comments: A pleasant gin liqueur which is part crème de cassis and part cherry brandy. A little more gin character and this would be near perfect.
Felicity Murray – 8.2
Nose: Ripe berries and cherries, a mix of warm spices and juniper.
Palate: Thick and sugary with juicy plums, blackberries and cherries along with a slice of rich chocolate orange giving it just enough acidity to balance the fruity sweetness.
Finish: Sweet and sour, long and silky smooth.
Comments: A good example of a sloe gin. Smooth and balanced. Sip neat over ice as a warming fireside tipple or serve topped with Prosecco or sparking wine in a tall sparkling wine glass. Garnish with a cherry.
